Right now that little voice may have stopped you in your tracks to building a thriving business. I know that game of survival–doing only what you know and not expanding your reach into uncharted territory.
I used to call myself a survivor-of a non growing marriage that kept me stuck in academia; a small stroke survivor–even the support group called themselves survivors–and a survivor as caregiver of a sick partner who died prematurely.
All that limited thinking disappeared when I claimed “I am a thriver.” Just that one written affirmation changed the course of my life.
When I decided to keep growing after each doubt, you can imagine the fun and eventual profits that followed.
I found new love everywhere–got speaking know how from Toast Masters, then National Speakers Association, got emotional support from business networks who had business growth as the purpose, got marketing keys from top online people who mostly became friends and some jv partners. Joined a support group of mature women who had each other’s backs. Those phone hugs count.
Specific Fun? I traveled the world from Africa to Peru and then many Caribbean islands to snorkel, hike and sample gourmet food and happy hour with local people who taught me gratitude for what is. On my Cuba trip last year I learned the salsa. My teacher? The rather ample bus driver from my tour. Who’d of thunk? All the group cheered me, “You still got it, Judy!”
From various setbacks, I still thrive. Not to prove anything, but I’m here as an encouraging example by rebuilding a book coaching business that hit 6 figures, then slumped at times. Today’s market is so different from the past–I had to learn new marketing to expand again.
To Thrive Instead of Survive do These 3 Things…
- Keep your mindset daily on growing. “I’m a thriver.” or I’ve still got it.”
- Educate yourself on unique skills a pro knows how to implement for you to thrive.
- Take almost daily action to grow out of your comfort zone.
For myself, these new experiences motivated me to incorporate what works for me–not to repeat the past so much. Yet, some past is so good. Just this year, I finished publishing nearly 40 new ebooks to help my students and clients to write, publish and market themselves the unique ways. I know that short how to books and blogs are my best way to get action. Action by education! Maybe you’re thinking something like this?
